In the mid-1960s, fiberglass-bodied dune buggies were a veritable cultural phenomenon, led by Steve McQueen, Elvis Presley, and Bruce Meyers. Soon, industrious builders from coastal cities around the world were following the path led by Meyers and his fiberglass-bodied dune buggies, with the R.B. Irwin Equipment company providing off-road solutions on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border, with branches in both Buffalo, New York, and Toronto, Ontario. Irwin’s in-period advertisements evoke a bygone age, encouraging their eager customers (“the ‘now’ set who love life and know where it’s at”) to “Go happy in the swingingest, wildest, best looking buggy you can buy.” This mid-century buggy is ready to reignite the beach car trend. Powered by a 1641cc Volkswagen engine, 4 speed manual transmission, updated with a Weber Carburetor and chrome header, rides on its 66 VW pan, with all original vin stamps and tag in place. Clean and Clear title. New BFG tires on original Shelby California 500 slotted mags, see pic below of wheel casting. Built around 1969 on a 1966 Volkswagen chassis and titled as such, 2 owner Dune Buggy rare removable top, a true time capsule.
